Blizzard Plans to Release a StarCraft Shooter
Will We Get a New StarCraft Shooter from Blizzard?
It seems Blizzard is going to take another crack at a StarCraft shooter. Yes, you heard that right: StarCraft, one of the most beloved RTS franchises of all time, might finally get that action-packed shooter treatment we have all dreamed about – but not for Blizzard’s first try.
Blizzard’s history with StarCraft shooters has been dramatic at best. Do you remember about StarCraft: Ghost? Announced all the way back in 2002, StarCraft: Ghost had the fans hyped for years until it fell into development limbo and finally got axed in 2014. Another attempt was the project “Ares” but it was delayed so they could focus on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2—both of these games have since proved to be “cash cows” for the company.
Jason Schreier Confirmed the Development!
But this is 2024, and if a new report on Reddit from a popular video game journalist Jason Schreier is anything to go by, Blizzard isn’t ready to give up on the idea of creating an FPS in the verse of StarCraft.

In his upcoming book “Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment” Schreier drops the bombshell that the company has been secretly working on a new StarCraft shooter. Apparently, it’s in the hands of Vice President Dan Hay, a Far Cry veteran. Imagine a Far Cry-like StarCraft game. It could get wild! The fans on YouTube are already hyping this insight.
Old Games Will Get Remasters in 2024?
Also, during the TGS 2024, StarCraft fans got a dose of nostalgia, with the upcoming remastered collection of classic StarCraft games coming November 5, Day One on PC Game Pass. StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection will make it back all the way from Wings of Liberty to Legacy of the Void. It feels like Blizzard is warming up the fanbase before the big drop in the near future. They are famous for such marketing tricks – remember what they did with WoW Classic’s addons and upgrades?
Do We Need a New StarCraft Game?
The franchise really needs a StarCraft shooter to bring in some life into the universe full of iconic characters, epic battles, and deep lore. Blizzard has already proved that it can definitely do shooters – just look at Overwatch. Imagine playing as a Terran marine or a Protoss zealot with first- or third-person shooting mechanics.

We could roam through Zerg-infested colonies, hunt down key targets, command small squads, or even pilot the vehicles on massive battlefields. StarCraft’s universe is gritty enough, intense enough, and diverse enough to offer up a shooter experience unlike anything else.
