The Controversial Concord Announcement On PS5
Firewalk Studios’ Sci-Fi Hero Shooter Concord Makes Waves
Recently the developer Firewalk Studios has announced its future live-service multiplayer science fiction first-person shooter (FPS) game named Concord during the Sony PlayStation’s newest State of Play. The game title received one cinematic trailer and a gameplay trailer.
This game is the first big launch from Firewalk Studios, a group made up of previous members from Bungie and Activision. This studio, which was founded in 2018, was bought by Sony in 2023. It shows a big investment in their creative plan.
What Is Concord?
Concord is a hero shooter game with 5v5 matches in a lively, alien-stuffed universe. The characters are like those from Guardians of the Galaxy, they play as guns-for-hire called Freegunners and you will become part of their team on Northstar ship to travel around this colorful and disorderly world.

Every character brings their abilities. They can make the walls of fire, throw knives that explode, and even use trash bombs. Some characters have the power to block paths with walls, set traps, or lay down protective domes while others increase teammates’ speed by using spores. By genre, Concord resembles the upcoming Valve title Deadlock which has been recently leaked.
The Concord Release Date on PS5
We should expect the Concord release date for PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23, 2024. Before this, there will be a public beta in July and pre-orders will start starting from June 6th. You can follow Concord’s official website to avoid missing the date.
Concord’s Controversial Character Designs Stir the Reddit Debate
Some players have voiced their discontent about the game’s character designs, labeling them as “ugly” and lacking creativity”. This reaction started after the game was first shown, and many fans expressed their disappointment in how it looked.

One user from Reddit, gpetrakas, mentioned Concord on the r/gaming subreddit. They said that character designs in this game are “ugliest” they have ever seen. The specific mention was of Emari who is a Freegunner with blue lipstick, and green armor combined with a yellow helmet and purple stripes – not your conventional color scheme. People’s reaction to her appearance has not been great either as some compared it to an imitation space marine from Warhammer 40K.

The reaction is not just about the character designs, as many gamers have also expressed their disappointment with Concord being a live service game instead of being focused on a single-player narrative.
We can only wait and see whether Firewalk Studios’ first game will be successful or not. However, certainly, the controversy has made Concord a focus point.
