Housemarque Announced the New Game during State of Play
Saros Is the New Game by Housemarque
During the PlayStation’s State of Play event held on February 12, 2025, the first-party studio Housemarque revealed their new IP “Saros” that somehow will continue to expand their previous franchise “Returnal”. According to the first statement from the team, Saros will combine the well-known gameplay elements and a new story in a dangerous world where only your skills help to survive. We should expect more details about Saros in the next few months since Sony plans the release window for this project for 2026.
What Has the “Saros” Trailer Revealed?
In the first trailer, Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun) played Arjun Devraj in Saros as a “Soltari Enforcer”. The trailer creates a detailed image of Carcosa – a bizarre world with a strange alien entity. Through his cutscene monologue, Arjun tells about the infinite battle pattern that matches the roguelike system that Housemarque has become known for.

Saros will focus on the character’s growth and progressive development. Is this a bold step forward for Housemarque? Absolutely. Housemarque produced Saros instead of Returnal 2, and the result stands as possibly superior to both titles. The studio is ready to discover new possibilities in its approach instead of being constrained by external expectations. Many fans on Reddit appreciate such an approach and like to see the gameplay as soon as possible.
“Bullet Hell” and Permadeath Mechanics
The gameplay will focus on the permadeath mechanics just like in Returnal, meaning you need to act very carefully. Saros brings the complete message of its marketing tag through its phrase “Come back stronger.”
The protagonist’s death will serve as an element of growth and development in Saros instead of the more strategic approach to gameplay in Returnal. Players will have to face escalating threats combined with complex bullet-choking patterns while earning the benefits after each successful attempt. The game will combine roguelike mechanics with persistent progression elements to create a standout gameplay formula in Saros.

We hope to see more details about Saros, Ghost of Yotei, and other first-party Sony exclusives during the upcoming summer months of 2025. Make sure to follow and bookmark the Asami Games website.
