The coming release of Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition has been officially announced. Many fans have been patiently waiting for this improved version for years. Do We Need the 20th Anniversary in 2024?

Well, it depends on how nostalgic you are. Do you remember the good old days when you were running from school to home to play another chapter as Jade? Do you remember that smell of mom’s tasty dinner and flavored snacks you were eating and laughing at Pey’j jokes? And the intense racing levels with the squeaking sound of your gaming chair wheels on the floor at each turn? Ah, the good old days. What Has Been Altered in the 20th Anniversary Edition?

Released in 2003, Beyond Good and Evil quickly became a popular game title developed by Ubisoft. It tells the story of Jade who works as an investigator reporter to reveal an alien conspiracy. The game, although not initially successful at selling many copies, found everlasting success. That is why it has been already remastered in HD back in 2011. Ubisoft has already removed the HD version from Steam so you should wait for the improved 20th Anniversary Edition if you want to play this game in 2024.

To tell the truth, the Xbox fans already had an automatic FPS boost for the game’s old version that was released on Xbox 360 consoles. But the Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition trailer looks so much better than the automatically enhanced or modded versions.

Ubisoft and Limited Run Games have confirmed the release date in an awesome trailer with a few significant upgrades. The most interesting technical upgrade – the players will finally get to enjoy this title in 4K at 60 frames per second. The 20th Anniversary edition also features much better graphics, an auto-save function, the cutscene skip option, and improved controls.

Do We Get Any New Content?

The best news is that this 20th Anniversary Edition will offer the new content! The fans can have a sweet taste of the special anniversary gallery, speedrun mode, and a treasure hunt unveiling Jade’s past. Surely, we should wait for the cosmetic rewards and customization options. The game fans on Reddit already discuss the new features and content.

When Can We Play?

The official Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition release date is June 25, 2024, on all the platforms including the current-gent and past-gen consoles! Also, it will be the part of Ubisoft+ subscription on Day 1! The reveal happened during the Limited Run Games Showcase along with Ubisoft’s website announcement.

Another good news is for the collectors of physical game copies – the Limited Run Games is going to sell the physical Collector’s Edition of this Anniversary Edition that you can order from July 12!

Does It Mean They Will Release a Sequel After All?

The Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition made many fans very happy, yet with some sad notes. Many fans are still waiting for the news about Beyond Good and Evil 2 that has been announced and even revealed a few years ago. The prequel/sequel was announced in 2017 at E3 (that doesn’t exist anymore). It means the sequel has been under development for many years with very few bits of information. Most insiders claim that Ubisoft doesn’t like the development process and even thinks about the sequel’s cancellation.

Even with these not-so-positive rumors, the Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition offers some hope. When the original game first came out in November 2003, this action-adventure got attention due to its distinct playing style and environment. It mightn’t have been widely successful commercially right away but has gathered a loyal fan base as time went on. Just like with most Sega Genesis games or PlayStation 1 classics, we were not expecting much but Ubisoft delivered us the best possible edition before the possible release of the prequel/sequel.

While we continue to anticipate more information about the sequel that remains so hard to pin down, this Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is a good reason to replay this title once more or even get to know this beautiful world for the first time.
