What Is Coming for Minecraft 2025 Updates?

Just like 2024, 2025 is going to be a huge year for Minecraft. This game will turn 15 years old and will go in a new direction. The Minecraft community got what they were hoping for in 2024 with some major updates and projects, and 2025 won’t be different. The content updates for Minecraft Pocket Edition and Bedrock Edition, the native PS5 release, and the end of VR support mean the Asami Games will cover a lot of interesting news about this wonderful sandbox game.

A Native PS5 Release

Probably the most expected 2025 update is a native PS5 release of Minecraft with visual tweaks and changes. While the game is backward-compatible with PS5 and PS5 Pro (from 2024), Mojang has been working on a dedicated port to make the most of the PS5 hardware. The native PS5 version will load faster, run faster, and have more realistic graphics with the support of ray tracing and dynamic lighting.

Also, the fans are expecting the support of the DualSense controller with all its unique features. We expect the adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and maybe even a few other surprises that Mojang hasn’t revealed yet. If Minecraft is the game that’s still ruling the gaming world, this PS5 release will set it up to be one of the most multi-platform and cross-platform games ever.

The Decline of VR Support

2025, a year that is both full of promise and also very sad, is not. Minecraft will be taking off VR support indefinitely after March 2025, according to Mojang. Since 2016 Minecraft has let people walk around in the blocky world in VR thanks to Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR. But even VR’s resurgence has not yet delivered the feature’s mass adoption that Mojang expected. It is quite sad news because you won’t be able to enjoy touring your beautiful houses in Minecraft

Cutting down the VR support is part of a larger strategy recently announced by Mojang. A few days ago, such an update with VR support was a revolution in tech, but the current VR market has not been up to par.

That’s especially the case with the PlayStation VR2’s lackluster reception and VR-themed games in general. After March 2025, only players who are playing the Minecraft Java versions (mods such as Vivecraft) will still be able to continue to play in VR. However, we will expect more re-releases of Minecraft on other, more popular platforms, like Nintendo Switch, for instance.

Minecraft 1.22 – The Multiverse Update

Recently, we’ve covered the update 1.21.50. But let’s fantasize about what may happen in the update 1.22 which is expected in January 2025. There are rumors that this update of Minecraft 2025 will be called “The Multiverse Update” and there will be a couple of new dimensions added that will expand the sandbox world even further. The update may add such biomes and realms like the Realm of Dragons, Space Realm, and the Reverse World with entirely new modes.

The new biomes will be more than beautiful to look at, just like the recently added Pale Garden. According to some leaks and speculations, The Burnt Down Oak Forest biome, for example, promises a post-apocalyptic location with new resources and hazards. The patch may bring larger maps with a focus on crafting and survival mechanics.

More Interactions and Impact of Minecraft Community

So too is Mojang reinventing their approach to the Minecraft community. The controversial Mob Vote will no longer be available – expect only two Minecraft Live events annually since 2025. They’ll be held twice a year so fans can connect more directly with Mojang and have a more tangible say in the game’s development. According to this video, some fans already miss the Mob Vote, but with more focused events and more frequent updates, this change can be for the better.

A big annual patch is not planned, but a few patches will probably appear during the first months of 2025 – Buzzy Bees and Armored Paws. These minor releases will help to boost the community’s hype and introduction of new, experimental features.

Summing up, in Minecraft 2025 will be a big year. With an all-new native PS5, a major patch expanding the multiverse, and a new model for community support, Mojang is paving the way for the future of Minecraft. A lot will come next for fans and this game is just going to keep changing with new trends.
