The Details of the First Deadlock’s Huge Update
Deadlock’s Huge Update – Better Matchmaking, New Minimap and More
Valve’s third-person MOBA with hero shooter elements, Deadlock, has recently received a game-changing update. Since the invite-only closed testing started way back in the spring of 2024, the urge for more content and improvements has only been growing. The latest patch is by no means a letdown, with 24/7 matchmaking, a new improved minimap, and a raft of balancing tweaks. Let’s review them all!
24/7 Matchmaking – A Game Changer for Deadlock
There are several major updates. But the most notorious one is 24/7 matchmaking. Matchmaking time in Deadlock used to be limited to particular hours of the day. On weekdays, the time slots were much shorter compared to the weekends. However, it put a lot of the night owls and early birds into a hang-around situation. Not anymore. Now that matchmaking is open 24/7 – forget about waiting. Gamers from different time zones can jump into the action whenever they want.

But that’s not all: Valve redesigned the matchmaking system to be more balanced and fair. New players queuing solo will now be matched exclusively with other newbies until they secure 4 wins. Parties of six will also no longer face off against solo players, helping even up the team matches. Improved Behavior Systems and a New Minimap
Deadlock is ramping up efforts to encourage good player behavior. A new update brings a complex system of tracking behavior that will temporarily limit certain in-game features for players misbehaving: quitting or reporting other players falsely. If you fall out of favor with the system, you just might land yourself in the low-priority queue, where your matchmaking times are longer until you’ve played a certain number of games.

On the visual side, the game now has a completely new minimap. It’s not just the cosmetic update of the map, but it also includes new icons of heroes. The orange color on the lane map is changed to green for the best visibility. The neutral camps are now highlighted on the structures in which they are situated to help players plan their strategies. More Balanced – Hero Tweaks and Performance Upgrades
The latest patch for Deadlock introduces dozens of changes to both heroes and items in attempt to customize gameplay. Ranging from the adjustments to Abrams’ Shoulder Charge and Infernal Resilience to items, like the Headshot Booster and Rapid Rounds, this update brought the balance into gameplay. Remember the news when we covered the roster of Deadlock’s heroes during the first leaks? Well, the rumors turned out to be true and now these heroes got a new update.

Another major aspect of this update includes performance enhancements. Valve has added numerous client-side optimizations that lessen the load time and, consequently, stabilize the game. Bug fixes range from less critical ones, such as audio glitches after switching spectating targets, to more major ones-like hero abilities not acting like they should. Extended hotkey customization was updated, including setting personalized hotkeys for each hero for a smoother experience.
Hopefully, this update is not the last one in 2024 for Deadlock. While we are waiting for more news, join the Reddit discussion where gamers talk about this huge update.
